Do not tell me about your religion or your ṭarīqa; let them be seen through your actions
Bismillāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate.
O Allah, send blessings upon our master Muhammad,
the Opener of what was closed,
the Seal of what came before,
the Helper of the Truth by the Truth,
and the Guide to Your straight path.
And upon his family,
according to his immense worth and the greatness of his rank.
My brothers, my sisters, and my children,
The wise have said:
“Do not tell me about your religion or your ṭarīqa; let them be seen through your actions.”
What a profound and illuminating statement!
Words may be beautiful, but actions are their true translation.
Many speak about goodness, yet few truly live it. Many give advice, yet few embody what they preach. And yet, what touches hearts and leaves a lasting impression on souls is not merely what we say, but above all what we do.
A person may adorn his speech as much as he wishes, but his actions will always reveal what he truly carries within.
Sincerity is seen in one’s conduct.
Kindness is seen in one’s deeds.
Patience is seen in times of trial.
Generosity is seen in sharing.
And love for Allah is manifested in the way we treat His creation.
My brothers, my sisters, and my children,
Religion is not a slogan, and the ṭarīqa is not merely a name one claims. They are an inner education that shapes the soul until their light naturally appears through one’s deeds.
The one who is truly nurtured by his religion and spiritual path becomes a mercy to those around him—a person who is trustworthy in his commitments, gentle in his speech, and just in his judgments.
People often forget the words they have heard, but they remember for a long time the good or the harm they have received.
A sincere smile can sometimes be more eloquent than a lengthy speech.
A helping hand can be more convincing than a thousand arguments.
A gentle word spoken at the right moment can mend a broken heart.
Patience displayed during hardship can teach more than many books.
That is why people of wisdom have always sought to be examples before being preachers.
They knew that actions are the silent ambassadors of the heart.
If faith truly dwells within a heart, it will inevitably become visible in one’s face, speech, behavior, and relationships with others.
It will appear when no one is watching.
It will appear when desires call toward wrongdoing.
It will appear when anger seeks to take control.
It will appear when trials knock at the door.
For difficult moments reveal the true worth of a person.
My brothers, my sisters, and my children,
Do not seek merely to be known for what you say.
Seek to be recognized for who you are.
Be honest when lying seems easier.
Be just when injustice appears advantageous.
Be merciful when harshness seems stronger.
Be patient when impatience calls you.
And remain steadfast in doing good, even when it is unnoticed and ignored by people.
For with Allah, sincere deeds are never lost.
A tree does not speak of its fruits; it bears them.
A flower does not speak of its fragrance; it spreads it.
The sun does not speak of its light; it shines.
Let your religion and your ṭarīqa be like that: radiating naturally through your character, your nobility, your modesty, your kindness, and your sincerity.
Then people will see your religion before you even speak about it.
They will recognize your spiritual path before you even name it, because its fruits will be evident in your character.
May Allah beautify our character, purify our intentions, illuminate our hearts, and make our actions the best testimony to what we claim to be.
Āmīn.
