Questions regarding Friday Haylala
Question
Do women have to congregate to perform the Haylalah (Asru) on Fridays after Salat ‘Asr ?
Answer
Women do not have to congregate for the ‘asru (Hadra) nor for the wazifa. They should recite individually at home and quietly. They are not authorized to gather together nor to recite the zikr out loud because their voice is part of their intimacy and must be private as far as possible. All good comes from obeying and all bad comes from innovations. (Sheikh Nazifi)
Question
Is it possible to make up for the ‘asru (qada) if one has forgotten to accomplish on Friday?
Answer
The ‘asru cannot be recouped (one cannot make up for the ‘asru) once the time for its accomplishment has passed (is over). It is related in “Al Ifada Al Ahmediya” that Seyidina Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret) said: “If the time for the Friday zikr (that is to say Haylallah) (which starts) after (Salat) ‘Asr is over, then it cannot be recouped (made up for).”
Sidi Tayeb Sefiani (may Allah be pleased with him) added the following commentary: « On the other hand, the wird (the lazim) and the wazifa must always be recouped (made up for/restituted). »
Sidi Muhammad al Hafidh Tidjani (may Allah be pleased with him) added: “This is because we take/make the vow (nadr) to recoup lazim and wazifa but there is no vow requiring us to recoup the Friday zikr. It is a duty to respect our vow. ”
Question
If a group who is accomplishing the wazifa on a Friday before the Maghreb realizes that by continuing their wazifa they would not have enough time to accomplish the ‘asru (or heylallah or hadra), what should they do?
Answer
If the group realizes that by completing the recitation of the wazifa they would not have enough time to recite the ‘asru, then they should stop the wazifa, begin the asru (Haylala) until Maghreb. When they have finished Salat Maghreb, they should complete the wazifa directly afterwards and individually, without beginning the zikr which are usually performed just before Salat. Then, having completed the wazifa, they may accomplish the usual zikr that we do after Salat. (Šayḫ Aḥmad at-Tijānī aš-Šinqīṭī)
Question
If a person cannot find a group with whom to accomplish the ‘asru (Haylala), what does he have to do?
Answer
In this case, he has to comply with the following words of Seyyidina Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret) : “If a person finds nobody with whom to perform the Friday zikr, he has to recite “La ilaha illa ALLAH” one thousand up to one thousand six hundred times.”
Question
What is the rule in the case where a person is late joining the group reciting the ‘asru? If the recitations that he performed with them number less than one thousand, is this sufficient or should he complete the lacking recitations?
Answer
If a person is late joining the group reciting the ‘asru, he should recite with them until they have finished. If they finish at the time for Maghreb prayer, then his recitations are sufficient. However, if there is any remaining time he should complete what is missing or at least complete one thousand beads. (Sīdī Muḥammad Ibn Ḥasan al-Jakanī)
