Sidi Muti, may ALLAH be pleased with him

Sidi Mu’ti (may ALLAH be pleased with him) was endowed with noble qualities, a pure heart and numerous merits. He took the Tariqa from Seyyidina Sheikh Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret) when he was young, and Seyyidina Sheikh Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret) loved him and looked upon him with affection. So did the elite among the companions who took special care of him because of the high rank that his father held with Seyyidina Sheikh Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret).

In his own words, he witnessed the following event: « At that time, the Emir had imprisoned a group of people from the Ahlaf tribes following a disturbance that they had caused, and he forbade their liberation. When they learnt that the Emir was particularly attached to Sheikh Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret), some members of the Ahlaf tribe went to request his help in front of the door of his house. When they arrived, they began to mistreat two bulls in the name of their honour as were the costumes in certain tribes when they wanted protection from an enemy or satisfaction of their desires.

When Sheikh Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctifiy his precious secret) came out to meet them and saw the torture that they were inflicting on the bulls, he was sad and exclaimed: “What drives you to commit such horrible acts?” They apologised on the following pretext: “We only wanted to honour you; we feared that you would reject us and refused to come with us to see the Emir. He has recently thrown some members of our tribe in prison, although they had committed no fault deserving of this punishment. We beseech ALLAH and yourself to intercede in their favour. Perhaps ALLAH will bring us deliverance or place it in your blessed hands…” And they continued to flatter.

However, the special aspiration that ALLAH had granted to Sheikh Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret) was that he was utterly insensitive to praise and flattery from creatures and he replied (or words to that effect): “If you want a beneficial invocation, I will do it, but if you want me to intercede with the Emir or anyone else, know that I have nothing to do with his affairs.”

The most reasonable and the most respectful among them said to Sheikh Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret): “O Master, we wish you invoke good for us.” Sheikh Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret) prayed as follows: “May ALLAH solve your problems soon.” He instructed them to go and express their concern to the governor. ALLAH granted their deliverance.

So the group went to see the governor to discuss the liberation of their prisoners. By the blessing of Sheikh Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret), there were no obstacles although they had no real hope that their request would be granted. Nevertheless, they left the governor’s house with all the prisoners and went directly to see Sheikh Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret) rejoicing in his pious invocation. They took the Tariqa Muhammadiya from him and returned to their tribe in the best of circumstances.
